Collection: Jason Mulligan

Originally from N.Ireland, Jason Mulligan studied Fine Art Sculpture at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle Upon Tyne. In 1994 he met and worked with the Japanese stone carver and ‘Henry Moore Fellow’, Hideo Furuta.

Now based in Kent, Jason is an elected member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. His work is held in collections in USA, Canada, Norway and across Europe with a variety of larger public works on display throughout the UK and Eire.

This selection of both stone & bronze sculpture has evolved through research on devotional and cultural objects. It explores pure simplistic forms that incorporate his own personal visual language.

The recurring carved ‘wings, blades, sails, furrows, and folds’ are the layering of historic and geological referencing. Mulligan is influenced by the mysterious tribal object to ancient fertility figures and religious statues. He recalls some past primeval state while playing with the ambiguity and form of the artefact. The work invites the viewer to multiple readings, where the mystery is in their elusiveness.
