The Rooswijk was a vessel built in Amsterdam in 1737 but became stranded on the Goodwin Sands two years later while enroute to the East Indies. Its cargo consisted of a large mass of steel cannon balls which sank with the vessel and fused together while lying on the ocean floor. The remains of the Rooswijk were lost among the thousands of ships in this archaeological graveyard.
