15 Minute Quiz - With Rachael Talibart
Give us a 60 second biog:
Ocean photographer who loves storms and mythology and getting soaked by waves. Occasionally shoots calm seas too. Won some awards and likes selling prints.
Describe your work:
All about the sea. Wild, free, atmospheric (I hope) and passionate.
Where do you work?
Mostly on the Sussex coast but also in Scotland, Portugal, North America and, later this year, Antarctica.
What is your inspiration?
The sea. Can’t get enough of it.
What do you do to relax?
Watch and listen to the sea.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
Frustrated. Maybe a writer.
Do you have a favourite piece of work?
Yes.
What is your favourite colour?
Blue.
What are you working on today?
An article for a magazine about the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’ as applied in art.
What is your earliest memory?
Dropping my teddy bear off a pontoon and Dad fishing him out with a boat hook.
What is your most treasured possession?
Oh gosh. No idea. Sorry. Not big into treasuring things. Can I be existential and say ‘ freedom’?
What are your best and worst qualities?
I am tenacious. That’s both of them. One ought to know when to give in.
Which artists do you admire?
So many. Here are a few off the top of my head as instructed: Ernst Haas, Susan Burnstine, William Turner, Hokusai, Jonathan Chritchley.
Tell us a joke.
What sits at the bottom of the sea and twitches? A nervous wreck.
You have sixty seconds to make a picture of your favourite animal, any medium, go…
Yikes! Couldn’t possibly photograph anything that fast so had to sketch it.
