Collection: Ben Fenton

Fenton is based in the coastal town of Hastings. He escaped a life he no longer wanted to live in London to paint brutalist architecture and coastal landscapes. That journey has not been an easy one as he battled with his mental health. Fenton is very vocal about this time and we have found his story an inspirational one.

The son of a fishing family, Fenton grew up in Dungeness. Rooted in a love of the South Coast, it’s in his blood to paint this place. Particularly, he is drawn to the brutalist architecture that dominates these shores. Using the geometry of the buildings and echoing artists of the 1960’s (when so many of these structures were created) Fenton has created his own unique and instantly recognisable landscape style.

As a gallery we are always looking for that distinctiveness, that thing lets you know this artist’s work belongs to them and no one else. Fenton has found it.
