Collection: Kate Isaacson

Kate Isaacson is based in St Margaret’s Bay, along the White Cliffs of Dover, Kent. She read English Literature and History of Art, then went to law school and ended up in the corporate world of fine art insurance. She learned to paint through disciplined self-study, virtual tuition and under the online mentorship of American artist, Sarah Sedwick. 

Isaacson is a miniaturist and master of alla prima, ‘in one sitting’, wet on wet oil painting. The technique is full of movement and texture. It is efficient and minimalist with no fussing over detail.  Her main focus is on how few brush strokes she makes to tell a story, capture a memory, a mood, feeling or vibration through an economy of mark making. She uses clean and unified marks, and harmonious colour.  

Inspired by the seascapes of JMW Turner, her work explores colour and light in a contemporary impressionistic style.
